Saturday, January 5th, I had the pleasure of watching the Academy’s VFX Bake-Off at ILM/Lucasfilm! This was their first year live-streaming to three places (San Francisco, London, and New Zealand); it’s usually in a big theater down in LA where everyone from the VFX branch comes to watch before and after reels and VFX reels for each of the 10 shortlisted movies.
They were:
Ant Man and The Wasp
Avengers: Infinity War
Black Panther
Christopher Robin
First Man
Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom
Mary Poppins Returns
Ready Player One
Solo: A Star Wars Story
Welcome to Marwen
It was amazing to see all the detail and behind the scenes that goes into all of these movies. There are a surprising amount of VFX in every movie you see.
